What is Overfill Prevention System?
An overfill prevention system (OPS) is a safety device used to prevent the overfilling of storage tanks, which could cause spills or leaks. The OPS is designed to detect the level of liquid in a tank and prevent it from being filled beyond a predetermined level.
There are different types of OPS, but most include sensors that monitor the level of liquid in the tank and communicate with a control system that stops the filling process when the predetermined level is reached. Some systems use mechanical devices, such as float switches or ultrasonic sensors, to detect the level of liquid, while others use electronic sensors.
The OPS is important for preventing environmental damage and reducing the risk of accidents or injuries associated with spills or leaks. Many regulatory agencies require the installation of OPS on storage tanks in order to protect public health and safety.
